Steps to Create Happiness and Wealth – Step 2

In our lest segment we introduced Feng Shui and the first step or six. Now I'd like to introduce step two.

Second Step: Make a decision of what you wish

The Law of Attraction tells us that the Universe is only able to help you create your desires if you clearly decide what you wish.

The Universe tells us: YOUR WISH IS MY COMMAND.

A. WHAT DO YOU WISH?

Some people are very clear about what they desire, and others are totally not.

Marie Diamond can help you decide with SOME TIPS.

1 – If you have a hard time making a decision on what you wish to create, make sure you place a bubbling fountain in the north of your living room or office, but not in your bedroom.

2 – Check which images you surround yourself with:

• Are they uplifting or depressing? Choose uplifting images.
• Are the people in the images alone or with others? Find pictures or images with a feeling of togetherness.
• Are there many pictures on your walls or is there space between them? Zen is better than chaos.
• Are there any pictures confirming your dreams or your nightmares? Confirm your dreams.

3 – Make sure your desk is clear and your papers are filed, or it can be hard to make decisions in your professional life.

4 – Declutter your computer files. Don’t let too many files be open on hold as you work.

B. 4 THINGS TO START WISHES:

When using Diamond Feng Shui, it is important to have your wish ready in 4 aspects of your life:

Smile at a stranger

SUCCESS: Your professional life

HEALTH: Harmony in your body

RELATIONSHIPS: All kinds – professional, romantic, family and friends

WISDOM: Your spiritual level, or level of knowledge

In order to ask the universe your wishes for these 4 aspects, you need to know how to address them to the universe:

1/ in the present tense
2/ with your Name: for example – I, Marie Diamond
3/ in detail: the more details, the better the Universe can respond to you
4/ confirmed with symbols, colors, and images that according to Diamond Feng Shui can help you

SUCCESS: royal blue will be helpful for everyone to manifest professional success.

HEALTH: emerald green will be helpful for everyone to manifest good health in body, mind and spirit.

RELATIONSHIPS: rose will be helpful for everyone to manifest great relationships.

WISDOM: yellow will be helpful for everyone to manifest wisdom and knowledge.

C. SENDING THE MESSAGE TO THE UNIVERSE FROM THE RIGHT ANGLE

Asking the universe is one thing, but which direction will have the most impact? In Diamond Feng Shui Essentials, Marie Diamond explains to you exactly which directions are important for you personally, to activate in your living room, office or bedroom.

THE SECRET is that this direction is not the same for everyone. You need to know your 4 best directions to send your message on success, health, relationships and wisdom to the universe. That is the knowledge Marie Diamond has acquired from the ancient wisdom of Feng Shui.

As we are living in a linear time and space dimension we need to use this linear information to reach the non-linear dimensions of the universe. The universe is like the postal service. If you post your mail in the right mailbox, and from the correct address, you will receive the right answers back from the universe more quickly.

Marie explains in a DVD, CD and Manual exactly how to send the right message to the universe and increase your ability to manifest your desires more quickly.

Third Step: The Universe supports your wish

The Law of Attraction tells us that the Universe is our greatest supporter and supports us in any wish we have.

Show the universe that you know you trust the support, by sitting on your throne; the King or Queen always sits on a throne. Feng Shui requires that you feel the support of the universe in your life. Remember you need to act as if. When you sit in a way that you feel support in your back, you are acting as if the universe is supporting you and IT WILL.

1/ Sit in a solid, high–backed chair.

2/ Sitting with a solid wall behind you also provides support.

3/ If you sit with your back to a door or window, make sure you have a solid, high–backed chair or a tall round-leaved plant behind you.

4/ If those are not possible, make sure you hang on the back of your chair an image of a mountain or a mentor or an angel, so you are symbolically supported by someone representing the Universe.
Fourth Step: Be open to the gifts of the Universe

The Law of Attraction tells us that you need to be open to the gifts of the universe. You need to be in a receiving mode. If you are not opening yourself to what the universe has as insights or as taps on your shoulder and you turn yourself away from the possibilities, you will not see the gifts coming to you.

Show the universe that you are open to receiving. The King or Queen sits in their throne in a way that allows them to see the incoming flow from the universe. By sitting this way, they are open to the gifts that the universe is in process of manifesting. The gifts can come as physical gifts, in the form of relationships with the right people, or the perfect insight or information you need. Feng Shui requires that you feel the support of the universe in your life. Remember you need to act as if. When sitting in a way that you feel support in your back and are open in the front, you are acting as if the universe is supporting you and IT WILL.

Position your Chair as the throne of the Queen or King

Wherever you sit: your desk, on your couch, in a restaurant, or in meetings, position yourself like a queen or king to see the incoming flow. If you can see the incoming flow where you sit, you can see the opportunities the universe is sending you. You will make the right decisions, as your senses will capture all the messages the universe sends.

Extra tips:

1/ Make sure you have a solid wall behind you for support or a high-backed chair.
2/ Make sure images hang behind you that are supportive: as mentors, mountains, angels, family members or partners that support you.
3/ Remove any sharp-leaved plants from your area.
4/ Remove all clutter around you.
5/ The main breadwinner or head of the family needs to sit in the best position – not your children or your dog or cat or your mother in law: you need to be in charge of your home.

Position your Bed as the bed of the Queen or King

The universe also sends messages at night because dreams and inspiration can help you direct your life to make the right decisions. You need to clearly see the door when you wake up to the messages of the universe in the morning.

Extra tips:

1/ Make sure you have a solid wall behind you for support.
2/ Try to sleep in a good direction for you personally: the top of your head needs to point to a good direction.
3/ If your bed is placed into a corner for sleeping in the right direction, make sure you have a headboard or a screen behind you.
4/ Make sure no mirror is reflecting your bed.
5/ Sleep in a queen or king sized bed even when you sleep alone.
6/ Do not hang images of water above your bed: you drown – no images of big rocks – you are squashed.
7/ Put images above your bed of what you wish to manifest: romance, health, wisdom, success, so your unconscious mind can focus on them during your sleep.
8/ No headboard made of slats or you will cut to pieces your energy for manifesting.

Wealth and Money

6 Steps to Create Happiness and Wealth – Steps Five and Six

Fifth Step: Optimize your Manifestation

To have the highest results for the Law of Attraction, your home needs to reflect your thoughts, emotions and actions. Using the Law of Attraction in your environment needs to become a daily practice, a second nature, so that your whole body and aura are constantly opening up to the messages in the universe; from the moment that you awaken in your queen or king-sized bed, to the coffee shop where you take your breakfast, to the desk in your office, the business meeting at lunch, your wonderful dinner with your partner, (make sure you both see the entrance of the restaurant – be gracious to your partner) until you watch the late night show in your living room with the family.

FACING THE RIGHT DIRECTION WHEN YOU ARE AWAKE

As you know, it is important during the day to face the right direction for you. This allows all your senses to capture all the incoming messages and gifts from the universe.

When you face the right direction, you can:

1/ hear the right messages.
2/ see the right signs.
3/ smell and taste the subtle impressions the universe is giving you.
4/ feel in your heart this is the right thing to do.
5/ say to the universe, Thank You ……I GOT IT.

What is the right direction?

100_1287

In the first step you needed to hang in your personal best directions the right message to the universe.
Well if you wish to receive quick and instant gifts from the universe, you need to sit as much as 5 hours per day towards the right direction.

1/ you wish to attract success: sit at least 5 hours facing the right direction
2/ you wish to attract health: sit at least 5 hours facing the right direction
3/ you wish to attract relationships: sit at least 5 hours facing the right direction
4/ you wish to attract wisdom: sit at least 5 hours facing the right direction

Everything you need to know about your personal right directions, can be found in the Diamond Feng Shui Essentials.

PLUS
If this is your own home or office, make sure that in the direction you are facing, there is an image that reflects what you wish.

In your Success direction you can hang:
a vision board with your goals.
an image of someone that is already successful in what you desire.

In your Health direction you can hang:
an image that represents your health goal.
an image of someone that already attained your goal.

In your Relationship direction you can hang:
an image that represents your relationship goals.
images of romance, friendship, family or teamwork depending on your goal.
an image of some people that already attained your goal.

In your Wisdom direction you can hang:
an image of the kind of wisdom you wish to attract.
an image of something or someone that represents the level of wisdom and knowledge you are looking for.

PLUS
Make sure that nothing that tells the opposite message is still around.
It is better to have nothing than the wrong image.
Let go of all blockages or storage in the area you wish to optimize.

Sixth Step: LET IT BE: Let the Universe fill in the How

As the Beatles already sang it… Let it be. When you have done all the right things to bring in the Law of Attraction in your home, you just let it be and start doing your normal work and living.

Diamond Feng Shui starts working within 9 seconds, 9 minutes, 9 weeks, or 9 months…

The more you combine the 3 aspects: Heavenly, Human and Earth luck, the faster it starts working.
The more you let it go, the more the universe can start bringing in the wonders of the Law of Attraction.

I have seen it working sometimes in 9 seconds, as people feel a definite shift in their awareness; others feel it after several weeks. If you don’t notice it, your friends and family will. It always becomes obvious but sometimes we don’t see the signs. And when it starts changing, be grateful, be happy so the universe can bring in more of the good that you have desired.

Good Fortune,

Profiling and Team Building

profiling-and-team-building

Profiling and Team Building

When any group of people work together, the team leader and most of the employees are each competent and capable of doing their jobs. However, many challenges can occur if an awareness and leadership emphasis on the “people factors” is missing. When not addressed in the beginning, this dynamic often takes on a “life of its own” as people instinctively compare themselves and make decisions about other people based on their own biases and prejudices of what is “right” and “wrong.” They become defensive, want to be right, look good and not be dominated or controlled by others. They take up sides.

When we add another layer of people’s own personal challenges and agendas – i.e. long drives to work in traffic, family challenges, people holding out on their real feelings, trust not being sufficiently built, and trust levels being violated due to jealousy, lack of understanding, etc., etc., etc. it is no wonder that personality clashes and chaos become the standard or norm – rather than the exception.

Each problem can be solved and none of this need occur when an organization is PeopleSmart. Leaders can create a comprehensive Job Description for each role, clearly defining its behavioral as well as skill requirements. The right people are placed or promoted into the right jobs and everyone knows how to win at work. Performance reviews become a time for growth and development when people Smart policies, procedures, rules of the game, and rituals are clearly in place.

When meetings can be held where a “safe space” has been created, people feel free to share their “real” feelings and handle issues responsibly as they came up – without fear of reprisal. Without this in place, chaos happens with every people issue. Good employees leave and the team leader or owner often has to go back to “square one” – especially if, on top of it all, undetected or innocent mistakes in hiring have been made in the first place.

Carol Dysart and/or PeopleSmart Solutions Consultants help team leaders establish the systems outlined in “Money Making Systems: For People Who Work with People.” They guide you step by step through what is detailed in the book and helps you customize it for your business. They identify your needs and help to carry out what is missing in your business.

These can include the following:

How to hold productive team meetings:
• WIFLS – how to use at regular staff meetings.
• Rules of the Game, Policies and Procedures
• Personal Financial WIFLS to learn what is important to each person on the team and sharing your own personal goals

Profiling Team Leader and Members:
• Introduce profiling administration
• Group Interpretation and Team Building
• Private Interpretation and Needs Assessment
• Teaching how to People-Read to increase team, sales and customer service skills.

Role Profiling – Helping you hire the right people for the right roles:
• Create the Role Profiles for each key job or position
• Apply to Job Advertisements and Job Descriptions
• Role Clarity for specific behavioral expectations required for optimum role performance.
• How to apply Role Profiles to the Employee Review /Performance Evaluation process.

Team Analysis, Growth and Development:
• Meet with the team to help everyone understand what their own and each other’s profile report includes
• Analyze the entire Teams’ Profiles to identify emerging leaders and see where potential gaps will cause an imbalance in team.
• Identify potential interpersonal conflicts and how to resolve.
• Regular training updates to maintain the trust, rapport and communication skills.

Manager Growth and Development:
• Work with each manager to teach them how to interpret the profiles and to work 1:1 with each member of their team.
• How to make role of manager more satisfying and successful.
• How to identify succession or promotion potentials.

Proven Business Relationship Agreement

Last 5 Agreements – Part 4

DC Cordova

You made it! Here are the final five business relationship agreements in the 4 Part Series (twenty total business agreements) for creating profitable partnerships. You can read Proven Business Relationship Agreement – Part 1 if you haven’t already done so to get you started right. Proven Business Relationship Agreement – Part 3 was my last post and I’m glad to receive e-mails from some of you with the distinctions you’ve learned. Keep the feedback coming. I like to know what is working for you.

Here’s agreements 16 – 20 for your complete Business Relationship Agreement to use in your current and future partnerships! Enjoy…

16. Prepare for the worst – expect the best

___ We have talked about the worst thing that could happen in the business relationship.

___ We have a plan for a buy-out (exit) clause, or a clause on how to handle the dissolution of the business, including who keeps the rights to the idea of the business and how the assets are divided?

___ We have thought of every possible scenario including how to define “successful performance” and how to quantify or measure the results we expect. (We know that not doing this could cost us not only the partnership but also the business!)

___ We have made contingency plans that will keep our business operating, should unforeseen events in either partner’s life come up.

17. Ethics

___We have an agreement that covers any contingency should one of the partners become involved in any immoral or illegal activity.

___We agree that if so, they automatically default their partnership to the other person.

18. Legal Advice

___ We have identified a conflict resolution-oriented attorney to review our agreements and discuss it as a group.

___ We have included arbitration clauses, so that any disagreement does not have to end up in court.

___ We have agreed to work toward a resolution, rather than get involved in a lawsuit.

___ We have worked through and made clear agreements and have created our own version of the Rules of the Game to apply to the business partnership.

19. Financial Advice

___ We agree to meet at least annually to review our business with a professional tax accountant.

___ We will look into our best plan for wills, living trusts, and estate planning.

20. CELEBRATE! –

___ And finally, we will celebrate our wins together – little ones and big ones on a regular basis. We know that one of the values of having partners is that we have someone with whom to celebrate our wins! And we look forward to having our business become more and more profitable so that our biggest problems become figuring out how to handle and leverage our money!

6 More Key Questions – Part 3

By DC Cordova

Will this really help you make more money, be happier and have more fulfillment? If you’ve ever been in a relationship before – whether business or personal – you know how to have a good relationship. Very few know how to have a great relationship.

Anthony Robbins, the world-renowned success teacher and Money & You® graduate, says it best. Your success is determined by the quality of the questions you ask. If you’ve read my previous two posts on creating a profitable business agreement (read the first Post here: Proven Business Relationship Agreement – Part 1 and the second Post here: Proven Business Relationship Agreement – Part 2), you’ll quickly realize that I outlined a series of questions for you to ask yourself and to ask your potential business partner(s).

Now we’re getting even more detailed and focused on some specifics. I find many people don’t want to deal with these. And I would ask you to take a look and see if you really applied these questions to your relationships in business, would you have more clarity? Would your planning change? What I’ve seen over the last 30 plus years is that what it takes to be an entrepreneur – not just an entrepreneur, but a successful builder of businesses that grow and thrive – is these questions are inherently a part of the way of thinking or planning.

If these posts make you think, GREAT! I’m having an impact on you. Now we’re going to take a look at the next 6 Key Questions you need to ask yourself in creating a success business relationship…

10. Know your partner

___ We have discussed and know if there are…

___ Habits they currently have and have had in the past that we might want to know about.

___ Complaints and “stories” from their past

___ Any bankruptcies and/or negative business dealings?

___ What they learned from those experiences?

___ Which ones were they able to correct?

___ If they blamed another person?

___ Were they able to take responsibility for it?

11. Personal responsibility and integrity

___ We know that personal responsibility and integrity underlies all successful partnerships and organizations. When these two distinctions are equally important to each member, everyone knows they are personally responsible for what is happening in their own lives.

___We agree not to blame and take full responsibility for our part when things don’t go the way “they are supposed to”…

___ We know going into this agreement that when we hear repeated blaming of others or constant justification of self, then we can pretty well predict the future.

12. When Money is Involved – The GREED Factor

___ We understand that a business relationship is similar to a marriage and we both are hoping that all is going to work out great. We know that it can actually get more intense when large amounts of money are made and that it can bring up negative and limiting subconscious beliefs about money, success and prosperity.

___ On the other hand, for some, the more money they make, the more the greed factor comes into play and our styles could change;  if we have blocks to having lots of money we get greedy.

___ To prevent the effects of any of these changes, we have written agreements in place and are constantly in communication with each other, because we know that maintaining alignment is essential.

___ We have met with our Professional Accountant or successful Tax Lawyer who has given us advice as to what to do with future profits.

___ What percentage of it to be reinvested in the business?

___ How much to be saved?

___ How much each of us should be taking out as profit?

___ We have met and decided in advance how the profits will be disbursed in the short and long term.

___ We agree to re-visit this and update it every six months.

13. Making Long Term Decisions

___ We see ourselves working with each other at least five, ten, twenty years from now, but if not, we have put together an “exit” agreement as well as another agreement for the possible sale of the share of the business to the other partner.

14. More than two partners

___ If there are going to be more than two partners, if any one of us is hesitant to do something, we agree to honor that person because we don’t have total alignment.

___ If this doesn’t work we agree to get the advice of a third party we all trust.

15. Personal Decisions

___ We have discussed that if one of the partners decides to get married (or divorced) what will happen with the spouse in terms of the business.

___ If one of us decides to have a child, we have discussed how it is going to affect our participation?

___ We know what each partner is personally committed to and what the business represents for them.

Wow! I actually enjoy writing these because I know this is what works. Now, ask yourself: Do these questions make sense? If I’m going to create a business with another partner, does it make sense to know the answers to these questions? Ask yourself, what if I didn’t know the answers and wasn’t prepared? Could I lose my interest in the business?

So, I’d like to have some of your feedbackWe still have 5 more Keys to creating a Successful Business Agreement – and I’d like to know your thoughts. What has worked for you in business? What has caused upsets?

I look forward to sharing the next and final segment with you. Until then, I challenge you to take these questionnaires, print them out and actually go through the checklists.

And I’d like to give you a gift: Your Personal Entrepreneurial Strategy

DC Cordova

Proven Business Relationship Agreement–Part 2

Secretary Clinton and Romanian Foreign Minister Sign Agreements

Proven Business Relationship Agreement

Part 2

By DC Cordova

In my first post of this series “Proven Business Relationship Agreement”, I discussed and listed the key points to beginning to work in business with partners. The first steps of the Proven Business Relationship Agreement can be read here. You need to be willing to make your partner happy – much like in a personal relationship like a friend or marriage. Next, I want you to create joint ventures first to allow you to learn how you work together. One of the distinctions we cover in my program Money & You® is how you establish trust – you make small agreements. And keep them! This is exactly what a legal contract is… a series of small agreements.

The reason why Money & You® is so powerful is the way it is taught. Most people have experienced learning and education to lectures and notes. For many, this can be extremely tedious, frustrating and boring. We “excellerate” your learning in an experiential environment; it is proven that students learn faster (accelerated) when the medium is auditory, visual and kinesthetic. Meaning they not only hear and see the information but they also experience it.

In this article, you’ll learn the next seven points to creating your Proven Business Relationship Agreement. This series is all about clarity – clarity on purpose, clear rules, clear goals, clear money habits, clear financial habits, clear communication, and clear job descriptions.

If you like what you are reading, please share your thoughts in the comments section below. And to continue from the last post, here’s steps three through nine (3 – 9):

3. Get clear on your purpose

___ We have fully discussed why we are choosing to be together and want to do this particular venture or business.

___ We both know how each other feels about it and have stated out loud why we want this partnership — whether it is:

___ just to make money

___ to learn a new business or skill

___ to learn from our partner

___ because one is providing the funds and we need that money or we won’t be able to do that business.

___ because one is providing the expertise that, without which, we would not have a business.

___ We agree not to keep any secrets from each other. (We know they will come out in the light sooner or later, and later could be detrimental to the trust in the partnership as well as to both of our financial well being.

4. Establish the “Rules of the Game”

___ We are both believers in creating “Rules of the Game” – or policies for our partnership.

___ We have compared our values and found that we are not on opposite ends of the spectrum in what we believe.

___ We know that one of the “Rules of the Game” is to focus on what works.” In other words, each of us has to “get off” our position when something we are doing clearly is not working. Put simply, if there is something not working in the partnership or in the business, we agree to look at it and correct it.

5. Get clear on goals

We have thought about the following and each of us has answered…

___ What are the goals for the business relationship?

___ Why have you chosen to do business together?

___ To learn?

___ To network?

___ To team up with someone that has attributes that you don’t have?

___ What are our financial goals?

___ How much money we want to make together.

___ If we want to sell the business after a certain period of time?

___ If we want to have financial independence out of the business?

___ If we think combining your strengths will give you an advantage over what you could do alone?

___ If it is to take advantage of our differing styles?

6. Where is the money coming from? and who is going to manage the money? We have discussed what Money Habits will be important to each of us and know…

___ Where the money is coming from to capitalize the business.

___ What “learning experiences” each of us has had around money.

7. Financial habits

___ We have looked into my own and my partner’s habits to see…

___If they are similar

___ If each of us save, tithe and invest part of their profits?

___ If we can be confident that we are being mutually responsible and taking care of our selves financially?

___ If we can be confident that the other will not put pressure on the company later to handle any financial obligations they may not be able to meet.

8. Get clear on your lines of communication – We have discussed and know…

___ How frequently are we going to communicate?

___ How are we going to work together?

___ Are we both in the office?

___ Is one on the road and the other “home” in the office?

9. Who is going to do what?

___ What are the clear job descriptions of each partner?

___ Who is responsible for what?

___ Are your personalities complementary? Or is one better at one job than the other?

As you’ll learn, being on the same page, or in alignment, is absolutely essential to create synergy and the results you want in your business. Again, if you missed the first post or just want a refresher, read here my first post in this series of creating a Business Relationship Agreement.

I’d love to hear your comments, I do read them, and I look forward to providing value to your business, your family, your personal relationships and in creating the life of your dreams.

Proven Business Relationship Agreement – Part 1

By DC Cordova

In this series of posts, I’m going to share with you what has worked for me in business for the last 30 years. I currently have business agreements with partners in China, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and the United States. I’ve done business with well-known authors, speakers, artists, producers, film-makers, promoters, government ministries, large and small organizations – you name it. What I tell my clients is if you prepare for your business relationships, your partnerships, like you do marriage, then I can guarantee you a significantly higher success rate. This article contains steps 1 and 2 to creating a successful business relationship. Follow along, put it into practice and enjoy the fruits of clarity.

As all human beings have feelings, opinions, beliefs and emotions that can and do affect us in different ways in the various circumstances that make up our lives, I, _____________________ and I, _____________________ agree that as of this date: _______________________, we have read the chapter in What School Should have Taught You about Money & You and have fully discussed and hereby declare that we have discussed and are now fully aware of the following…

1. Be willing to make your partner happy

___ We have asked and told each other what makes each of us happy in business and personally.

___ We know what we can do to bother them and get the upset.

___ We are willing and committed to hear each other out – repeating the  other’s point of view before expressing our own opinion.

___ We are willing to have things go “their way” at times

___ We will consciously and clearly “agree to agree” or “agree to disagree” when necessary.

___ We will “share” in the way the business is run and agree to how that might look like.

2. Create joint ventures first before creating your business partnership.

___ We will go (or have not gone) into our partnership until we have worked on a few projects under “joint-venture” basis first.

___ We realize that this partnership/business venture is more like a marriage than anything is, and we will get to know each other like we would in a courtship.

___ I am willing to commit to my partner, as well as the business…

___ for a very long time.

___ through thick and through thin

___ to talk together and meet on a regular basis to evaluate how it is going

___ to call in a third party to facilitate when we don’t see eye to eye and cannot resolve a conflict within 45 minutes.

___ to get to know each other first for at least ___ months or ___ years.

___ We will spend plenty of time together before moving on to larger commitments.

___ To see each other working under a variety of situations, both when things are going well and when they aren’t.

___ To see each other when we are under pressure.

___ To spend time traveling together.

___ To get involved in activities together that will allow us to see how my potential partner(s) react under different situations.

___ To interview their old friends and ex-partners.

___ To attend several different types of seminars together, including intensive, long-term personal growth as well as business programs.

___ To learn how best to communicate with each other.

___ To work with a professional team builder and business coach to help us review or develop our business practices.

___ To develop a “language” we can use together.

___ To meet as soon as possible after each project we do together to review it, confirm what worked, list what didn’t work, and commit to the change that each “learning experience” indicated is needed.

___ To correct my systems (or attitudes) and learn from them.

This may sound like a lot to agree on – and if you really read this, you do this in regular relationships before fully committing in a marriage. I encourage you to approach your business partnerships like a marriage because you are legally agreeing to be in partnership. And sometimes dissolving a business can be more destructive and time-consuming than divorce. So be prepared.

And as my old partner used to say, “If someone will cheat in their marriage, what would stop them from cheating in business?”

In my next post I’ll share Steps 3 -9 in Proven Business Relationship Agreement – Part 2 …from “Get clear on your purpose” to “Who is going to do what?”

With loving thoughts,

The Buckminster Fuller Annual Memorial Lecture – 1997

(Introduction: I found many of Bucky’s writings to be pivotal in my education . So I decided to piece together those words that have had an tremendous impact on my life — and read them for you — as if Bucky were here. I think you will forever see the world in a whole new way.)

Specialist verses Comprehensivist

I thought her essay, Women in the Nineteenth Century, was so important that I published it in my book, Ideas and Tensegrities. When I heard that Aunt Margaret said, I must start with the universe and work down to the parts, I must have an understanding of it, that became a great drive for me. I saw that in my education I was being pushed to be a specialist – everybody is being pushed to specialize, to where they can’t be synergetic and can only know about the parts instead of the whole – I switched very vigorously; very deliberately, I became a comprehensivist.

Global Thinking and Planning

I was then sent to the United Stated Navy Academy. Then I became involved in the great transport operations that moved millions of people and supplies across the oceans of the world. This got me to thinking very big. I found the Navy was thinking in terms of the total world, of global planning, and that was an extraordinary experience for me.

Food for Humanity

When I came out of the Navy I went into Armour and Co.’s great packing house. They made me assistant export manager. I began thinking about the total foods of humanity around the world. You see how by this comprehensive anticipatory way of looking at things and thinking about the total needs of total man, I came a few years later to invent the words, Spaceship Earth. Because I began to think about the total planet as being as beautifully designed and equipped as a ship.

Think for Yourself

Anne came from a large family; she was the oldest of ten children. Her father, James Monroe Hewlett, was a prominent architect and he introduced me to the world of architecture. For the first time I met people who were building on the land. And for the first time there was a father again, who said to me, Don’t pay attention to what people say. What you think is the most important thing. Pay attention to your own thoughts.

Commit to Humanity

I had good cause with our first child to feel that children are endowed with a great deal more than many of us know, that every child may be born a genius but may simply be degeniused at an early age because parents and environment lack the ability to recognize these faculties. I said, I’m really going to give the rest of my life to the new young life. I pledged, both to the daughter who died and to the daughter now born, that I was committing myself to humanity.

Individual Initiative

I said, What can a little man effect toward such realizations in the face of the formidable power of great corporations, great states, and all their know-how, guns, monies, armies, tools and information? Then, self-answering: The individual can take initiatives without anybody’s permission. Only individuals can think, and can look for the principles manifest in their experiences that others may be overlooking because they are too preoccupied with how to please some boss or with how to earn money, how to take care of today’s bills. Only the individual disregards his fears and commits himself exclusively to reforming the human environment by developing tools that deal more effectively and economically with evolutionary challenges. Humans can participate -consciously and competently – in fundamental ways, to changes that are more favorable to human life. It became evident that the individual was the only one that could deliberately find the time to think in a cosmically adequate manner.

Fifty-Year Experiment

This was to be a fifty-year experiment to prove that man, like nature, was not a failure but a success; to rethink everything I knew. It was an experiment in which I myself was the guinea pig. I had to begin from the beginning. I had to find out what man has and see how it can be used for the advantage of others. I became convinced that we’re here for each other. Once I’d committed myself to that kind of program I had to expand what I’d already learned by a great deal, and unlearn a great deal that I had been taught was so that I’d found out was not so. And that was the most difficult discipline I took on. I scarcely spoke at all for two years. I couldn’t be completely free of words, but my wife had to talk to people for me. I didn’t want to say anything, make any sounds, until I was pretty sure what those sounds meant and why I wanted to use them. I had to make a complete disconnect in order to start my own thinking.

Reform Environment

I said, how do we find out how to use our minds and experience to the highest advantage of others in the shortest possible time? That was the challenge. Out of this then, in due course, came a great many designs, because I said to myself, I must commit myself to reforming the environment and not man; being absolutely confident that if you give man the right environment, he will behave favorably. By employing the kinds of capabilities used in building a battleship, you do more with less. I’m convinced that by more with lessing we could take care of everybody and there need not be any suffering around the world.

Man An Extraordinary SuccessBucky Fuller Stamp

I decided man was operating on a fundamental fallacy: that man was supposed to be a failure and therefore had to prove his right to live. Each man then said, I must show I can earn my living, and let other people go die. I decided the fallacy was that man was, in fact, designed to be an extraordinary success. His characteristics were just magnificent; what was needed was to discover the comprehensive patterns operating in the universe. The universe is a success. How could metaphysical man, using his mind, master the physical? Clearly, the possibility of a good life for any man depends upon the possibility of realizing it for all men I must be able to convert the resources of the earth, doing more with less, until I reach a point where we can do so much as to be able to service all men in respect to all their needs.

World Game™

I review planetary resources in terms of today’s gained know-how, to see whether there’s any way we might be able to do much more with much less, to be able to take care of everybody. All political systems and wars based on scarcity would become obsolete. World Gaming is played, not like checkers against an enemy but against ignorance, inertia, and fear. The World Game proves that John Von Neumann’s theory of war gaming, which holds that one side or the other must ultimately die, either by war or starvation, is invalid and offers a heretofore unconsidered alternative way to play the war game in which, as in mountain climbing, the object is to find all the moves by which the whole field of climbers would win as each helped the other so that everyone reached the mountaintop successfully. I think of my World Game as a way to bypass politics, human ignorance, prejudice, and war and put the facts before man and the whole world to try to deal with them coherently. We have never so far made the attempt to take our collective destiny into our own hands, and shape it.

Malthus is Wrong

It could be, I thought to myself, that Malthus is really not pertinent today because he didn’t know, for instance, that we were going to have refrigeration. I said, What else did Malthus leave out? I began to inventory the many discoveries that were not available to him in 1810: there was no modern technology at all; no refrigeration; no production steel; no electromagnetics. He left out doing more with less. In 1917 I began to realize we actually had the possibility of doing so much with so little and might be able to take care of all humanity at the highest standard of living anyone has ever experienced, and to do it by 1985. And if we did that, the whole raison d’etre of war would disappear.

Be a Trim Tab

I would never try to reform man – that’s much too difficult. What I would do was to try to modify the environment in such a way as to get man moving in preferred directions. It’s like the principle of a ship’s rudder, which is something I thought a lot about as a boy here on Bear Island. The interesting thing about a rudder is that the ship has already gone by, all but the stern; and you throw the rudder over, and what you’re really doing is making a little longer distance for the water to go round. In other words, you’re putting a low pressure on the other side, and the low pressure pulls the whole stern over and she takes a new direction. The same in an airplane – you have this great big rudder up there, with a little tiny trim tab on the trailing edge; and by moving that little trim tab to one side or the other, you throw a low pressure that moves the whole airplane. And so I said to myself, I’m just an individual, I don’t have any capital to start things with, but I can learn how to throw those low pressures to one side or the other, and this should make things go in preferred directions, and, while I can’t reform man, I just may be able to improve his environment a little. But in order to build up those low pressures I’m going to have to really know the truth. The child is really the trim tab of the future.

150 Admirals

I do know that technologically humanity now has the opportunity, for the first time in it’s history, to operate our planet in such a manner as to support and accommodate all humanity at a substantially more advanced standard of living than any humans have ever experienced. This is possible not because we have found more physical resources. We have always had enough resources. What has happened that now makes the difference is that we have vastly increased our know-how of specialized innovations, all of which invisible realization integrates to make possible success for all. I also know that this can be realized only by a technological revolution involving total Spaceship Earth, using all the resources and know-how as an integrated regenerative system, as in the design of any successful seagoing ship or any biological organism.

Spaceship Earth now has 150 admirals. The five admirals in the staterooms immediately above the ship’s fuel tanks claim that they own the oil. The admirals with staterooms surrounding the ship’s kitchen, dining rooms, and food refrigerators claim they own all the food. Those with a stateroom next to a lifeboat claim that they own the lifeboat, and so forth. They then have an onboard game called balance of trade. Very shortly the majority of admirals have a deficit balance. All the while the starboard-side admirals are secretly planning to list the boat to port far enough to drown the portside admirals, while the portside admirals are secretly trying to list the boat to starboard far enough to drown the starboard-side admirals. Nobody is paying attention to operating the ship or steering it to some port. They run out of food and fuel. They discover that they can no longer reach a port of supply.

Energy Grid

Thinking about humanity on board our planet, the Spaceship Earth, and playing the World Game, I became fascinated by the question, How do we get energy from here to there to help each other? If you look at the world map, you could see, not only crossing time zones and reaching Alaska, where the Russians are putting up dams, hydroelectric dams, in all their northerly flowing waters – all the way over there! I suddenly found I could reach the Russian network -1,500 miles. Boy! This would mean something because of all that standby power – that is, at off-peak times when 50 percent of the generating capacity is not being used. I found then that by integrating these networks to produce a global energy grid, we could integrate night and day and double the generating capacity operative around the world – immediately.

Why Utilities Link

The best customers that power companies have are industries. And they discovered that to hold their industrial customers, public utilities had to anticipate increased uses, for if the industrial customers turned on the juice and didn’t get it from the public utility, they’d go and put in their own energy production plants. So the utility company had to study the needs of their customers, and they have the most incredibly accurate charts of when the peak loads come in every day of the year, every minute of the day. The utilities have standby power for peak hours. This excess power is always being generated at a loss – a complete loss. But the company discovered that if it hooked up its wires with the next town’s, where the peak loads occur at just a little different time of day or night, what had been a complete loss could go over there and become a profit. With interlinked networks, the loss could be turned to a profit. But within 350 miles, the company couldn’t cross time zones. When it reached 1,500 miles, it suddenly was able to go right across the time zone to a different peak time; which meant of course, that there was a much better chance of selling that standby power.

Trudeau and USSR

In early years of Trudeau’s premiership of Canada, when he was about to make his first visit to Russia, I gave him my world energy network grid plan, which he presented to Brezhnev, who turned it over to his experts. On his return to Canada Trudeau reported to me that the experts had come back to Brezhnev with: feasible…desirable I therefore predict that before the end of the 1980s the computer’s politically unbiased problem-solving prestige will have brought about the world’s completely integrated electrical – energy network grid. This world electric grid, with it’s omni-integrated advantage, will deliver its electric energy anywhere, to anyone, at any time, at one common rate. This will make possible a world-around uniform costing and pricing system for all goods and services based realistically on the time-energy metabolic accounting system of Universe.

Kilowatt Hours

When Buckminster Fuller was asked by a 12-year-old boy, How do you suggest solving international problems without violence? He answered:

“I always try to solve problems by some artifact, some tool or invention that makes what people are doing obsolete, so that it makes this particular kind of problem no longer relevant. My answer would be to develop a world energy grid, an electric energy grid where everybody is on the same grid. All of a sudden there would be no problems anymore, no international troubles. Our new economic basis wouldn’t be gold or dollars; it would be kilowatt hours.”

Blood Clots

The world energy network grid will be responsible for the swift disappearance of planet Earth’s 150 different nationalities. We now have 150 supreme admirals, all trying to command the same ship to go in different directions, with the result that the ship is going around in circles – getting nowhere. The 150 nations act as 150 blood clots in blocking the flow of recirculating metals and other traffic essential to realization of the design science revolution.

World’s Highest Priority

Electrical-energy integration of the night and day regions of the Earth will bring all the capacity into use at all times, thus overnight doubling the generating capacity of humanity because it will integrate all the most extreme night and day peaks and valleys. From the Bering Straits, Europe and Africa will be integrated westwardly through the U.S.S.R., and China, Southeast Asia; India will become network-integrated southwardly through the U.S.S.R. Central and South America will be integrated southwardly through Canada, the U.S.A., and Mexico.

Graphs of each of the world’s 150 nations showing their twentieth-century histories of inanimate energy production per capita of their respective populations together with graphs of those countries’ birthrates show without exception that the birthrates decrease at exactly the same rate that the per capita consumption of inanimate electrical energy increases. The world’s population will stop increasing when and if the integrated world electrical energy grid is realized. This grid is the World Game’s highest priority objective.

Not You or Me

In 1970 it could, for the first time, be engineeringly demonstrated that, applying the most advances know-how to the conservation and use of the world’s resources, we can, within ten years of from-killingry-to-livingry reoriented world production, have all humanity enjoying a sustainably higher standard of living that any humans have ever heretofore experienced. It could further be demonstrated that we can do this while simultaneously phasing out all further Earthians’ use of fossil fuels and atomic energy.

Humanity is so specialized and these epochally significant technological facts are so invisible that it seems an almost hopeless matter to adequately inform humanity that from now on, for the first time in history, it does not have to be you or me -there is now enough for both- and to convince humanity of this fact in time to permit it to exercise its option and save itself.
Integrity of Everyone

Now we’ve reached the point of discovering that muscle is nothing, mind is everything. Evolution is integrating us and we’re no longer so remote from each other. Clearly we are here to use our minds, to be information gatherers in the local universe, problem solvers in relation to the maintenance of the integrity of the eternally regenerative universe. Muscle is nothing; mind is everything. But muscle is still in control of human affairs. In about ten years, if we come out with muscle in control, we will have chosen oblivion; if we come out with mind in control, it’s going to be utopia and eternity. Yes, we do have the option to make it, but it’s absolutely touch and go, a matter of the integrity of every human being from now on.

What Can I Do?

Each year I receive and answer many hundreds of unsolicited letters from youth anxious to know what the little individual can do. One such letter from a young man named Michael – who is ten years old – asks whether I am a doer or a thinker.

The things to do are: the things that need doing: that you see need to be done, and that no one else seems to see needs to be done. Then you will conceive your own way of doing that which needs to be done – that no one else has told you to do or how to do it. This will bring out the real you that often gets buried inside a character that has acquired a superficial array of behaviors induced or imposed by others.

You have what is most important in life-initiative. Because of it, you wrote to me. I am answering to the best of my capability. You will find the world responding to your earnest initiative.

10 Reasons to Use Facebook for Business

Social networking websites, especially Facebook, have significant implications for business owners, marketers, and entrepreneurs around the world. To keep your business current, you should at least be familiar with the latest conversational marketing techniques and viral technologies, including Facebook and its array of powerful features.

Here are ten reasons to be active on Facebook:

1. Meet your peers. Facebook is not just for college kids anymore. Members are typically older and more mature than on other sites, and there are more white collar users.

2. Find business contacts. Facebook reached more than 200 million active users in April 2009, and is predicted to overtake MySpace in the United States by January 2010, not only are your friends on Facebook, so are your prospects, your customers, your JV partners… and, of course, your competitors. You need to be on too.

3. Instant gate opener. Facebook members are open to connecting. You can easily begin a dialog with highly successful—even famous—people who were previously otherwise unreachable.

4. Build relationships. By engaging in conversations with your prospects and customers, you can better adapt your marketing and business services to meet their needs.

5. Raise visibility. By consistently showing up, posting relevant information, and being a thought leader, you can increase visibility and credibility as an expert in your area.

6. Develop your personal brand. The lines between business and personal have become blurred. You can reveal as much or as little about yourself as you wish, allowing you to personalize your brand.

7. Target your niche. Users volunteer vast amounts of information about themselves that you can readily access. These kinds of demographics, psychographics, and technographics would previously have cost fortunes to access. Author, John Battelle, calls Facebook a “database of intentions.”

8. Get rapid top Google placement. Create a Page for your business and ‘‘push” information to your “fans.” Pages (for business) and Profiles (for personal) are indexed for optimal search engine positioning. Facebook has a PageRank of 3/10, and an Alexa Rank of 4.

9. Place targeted ads. With Facebook Social Ads, you can test out extremely targeted advertising for minimal cost.

10. No cost marketing. Aside from paid ads, Facebook is totally free to use and with regular activity you’ll end up with more traffic, more subscribers, and more paying clients.
